始業式

「行ってきま～す」

今日は息子♂の始業式

この4月から小学校2年生になりました

思えばちょうど1年前の4月の入学式

当時はまだまだコロナ渦で入学式ができるかどうか

何とか体育館には両親は入ることができましたが

その後それぞれの教室には片方の親しか入れない

という状況

幼稚園から小学校という大きな変化がある時に

マスクを外してはいけないという

大人でも苦しい1年間を

子供たちは笑顔で乗り切ったんだなあ

としみじみ思いました


今日は仕事が遅めだったので息子♂と一緒に

家を出ました

いつも一緒に行くお友達と

エレベーターで乗り合わせ

お互いマスクをせず満面の笑顔

そういえばお友達の顔をマスク無しで見たのは

2年振りくらい

幼い顔が少しキリっと大人っぽく感じます

エレベーターを降りると入口では

たくさんの小学生や中学生がそれぞれ

仲間同士で会話しています

コロナ前はあれほど騒がしいと思っていたのに

この光景が幸せなんだなと感じました

「行ってらっしゃい」

と息子にハイタッチ

去年はほぼランドセルだった後ろ姿が

今日は頼もしく背負っていく姿に見え

1年ってやっぱり大きいなと感じました


"I'm off now!"

Today is my son's school opening ceremony. He just entered the second grade of elementary school this April.

Looking back, it was just one year ago when he had his entrance ceremony in April. At that time, we were still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we weren't sure if the ceremony would even take place. Although we were able to enter the gymnasium as parents, only one parent was allowed to enter each classroom.

It was a challenging year for both adults and children, as they had to wear masks and couldn't take them off during school hours, especially during the big transition from kindergarten to elementary school. However, seeing my child smiling throughout the year made me realize how they persevered through it all.

Today, I left the house with my son since I had a late start at work. We met his usual friend in the elevator, both without masks and with big smiles on their faces. It had been about two years since I last saw my son's friend's face without a mask, and I couldn't help but notice how their faces have grown a little more mature.

As we got off the elevator, we saw many elementary and junior high school students chatting with their friends at the entrance. It was a sight that used to feel so noisy before the pandemic, but now it felt like a happy and heartwarming scene.

I gave my son a high-five and said "I'm off now!" His back, which was mostly covered by his backpack last year, now looked strong and dependable. It made me realize how much children can grow in just one year.
